Apex Engineering Incorporated was selected out of 12 local and out of state engineering firms to complete an inventory of all of the stormwater management basins in New Castle County. The Governor requested this project after two young girls were killed during a major storm. A review of the county records along with field survey data collected by our survey teams provided the existing conditions. The data was collected using Global Positioning System technology to incorporate coordinates for each of the over 1,000 sites that were surveyed. Photographs of the basins were included with the surveyed data to compile an access database of information that was incorporated into the county’s existing GIS system. The basins were rated based on criteria created by the county and state. The collection of this data was similar to the collection of data for the pavement management system and compiled using a similar database.
